Answer:Yes it does have a compressor, it will absolutely freeze items inside if you want it to.
Question:how long does it take to cool down with full load of drinks?
Answer:When new (empty) it cools down to -8 F (min temp) in about an hour. Completely filled it would take about an hour to get to < +40 degrees F. You could set it for 33 F and it would hold that temp to keep your drinks cold but not freeze them.
